Who We Are

What is UGT?

A trade union with more than 130 years of history, focused on defending the labor, social and economic interests of working people.

We are an organisation with more than 130 years of history, whose main mission is focused on defending the labour, social and economic interests of working people, whether employed or unemployed, with permanent or temporary contracts, whether employees or civil servants, and in every sector of activity.

UGT (General Union of Workers), as one of the organisations with the highest number of worker representatives across our productive fabric, and as a result of exercising our constitutional right, actively participates in different forums within the framework of social dialogue, with the opportunity to negotiate, contribute, share opinions, and put forward ideas and alternatives that help improve social welfare.

How we carry out our work

  • We combine action and negotiation, always seeking consensus and agreements. That has been the main objective of union action.
  • In the company, our primary field of action being the workplaces, where two realities converge: the strength and capacity to solve problems, on the one hand, and the ability to overcome conflicts in the face of a precarious working situation, on the other, through Collective Bargaining, we value the necessary presence and union action of our legal representatives.
  • We carry out our union activity through collective bargaining in approximately 1,100,000 companies.
  • We negotiated more than 4,500 collective agreements. Nearly 11,000,000 workers benefited, whether or not they were union members.
  • We advise, inform, and support all individuals who need our help, whether or not they are affiliated with our union, in all matters where we can contribute to improving their work, economic, and social well-being. We strive to foster understanding within the context of labor relations, both at the beginning of their entry into the workforce, and by providing tools to help them develop and advance their careers, as well as during retirement and, if necessary, in various situations of disability—in short, throughout their lives.
